In the image above, there’s a trap. It’s the left most character in the light green sports bra. Why else would I use a header like “There’s a trap in my soup”?
In the past few years, there been an emerging population of trap characters almost every season. A large population will watch these series and fall into this trap. A typical reaction: “Wow, what a feminine character. She’s so cute, I’d fap to her. What you say! Oh god no.” Reminds me of my first experience with it. But first, there are some people who haven’t encountered a trap and don’t know what it is.
No, really. What did you say?

I actually had a large post ready to be uploaded, but I realized I was just typing for the sake of getting some kind of article up that was supposed to sound professional.
After a single proofread, I deleted it.
Instead, here’s a series of short sentences that describe the current anime season from the narrow viewpoint of yours truly.
K-ON! Season 2 is Kyoto Animation giving us our weekly moe blob injections. Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou is the sequel to Seitokai no Ichizon. Working!! is for people who either like minimal story settings or have worked in the service industry. Kaichou wa Meido-sama is our seasonal JC Staff production with lovely watercolor/pastel background scenery porn. Angel Beats has the OP with a girl playing a piano. Heroman takes place in California. B Gata H Kei has Yukari Tamura. Ookiku Furikabutte is a baseball sports anime with a competent animation team. I don’t care about Major (another baseball series). Arakawa Under the Bridge is done by SHAFT. Mayoi Neko Overrun is love, since it has loli and zettai ryouiki. House of Five Leaves is a bakery and samurai talk boxes without any actual cooking. Kiss X Sis is for perverts. Senkou no Night Raid replaced Sora no Woto.
And I think Da Capo is happening again. (Yay!)

I guess my website has degraded into a normal blog. Nothing to stand out with now that my podcast is on permanent hiatus. Just grand.
Kaichou wa Meido-sama! has way too many voice actress I recognize. In this screen shot from left to right: Kobayashi Yu (Shizuko), Fujimura Ayumi (Misaki), and Hanazawa Kana (Sakuya). I’ve only ever heard Hanazawa’s voice a couple of times. She’s voiced Sharon Reinsworth from Pandora Hearts and Potemayo from.. Potemayo. And anyone who’s followed Kobayashi’s work knows she has a ridiculous range of characters with either soft spoken characters, or screaming ones. I only knew Fujimura from The Sacred Blacksmith, a rather crap-tastic series that was rather cookie-cutter (but I ended up watching all of it anyway), and Kyouran Kazoku Nikki.
I’m not even counting the characters from the Maid Cafe that has Ueda Kana, Asami Kana, Toyosaki Aki, and Mariya Ise. Anyone who’s been watching liberally the last year of seasons will have heard all four before. Even some of the supporting male characters are instantly recognizable.
In a way, you think that it’s bad that you’re recognizing the same voices over and over again. I’d complain about it, but it’s the same here in North America with our limited pool of voice actors. Should I go ahead and complain? I guess I do already.
It’s just seiyuu porn at this point. Anymore recognizable voices will push me past my limit. Just don’t let Horie Yui voice a character – I’ll be dead from profuse nose-bleeding.
Oh yeah, one more thing. It’s done by JC Staff. Those bastards have some kind of hidden skill when it comes to color palettes and backgrounds.

I recently had an epiphany regarding how to gauge the amount of moe an animu series will emit at varying points in time, and what the effects are on the afflicted.
Would you like to know more?
