Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin – Episode 2

Oh, gawd those legs! OH YEA.

*ahem* I am so confirmed to be watching Seikimatsu Occult Academy. Regardless of how flawed the second episode might have felt, there’s still enough strangeness to it that I’m still compelled to keep watching. And GOD THOSE LEGS so nice.. I think I have a new favorite character design. The one piece dress with thigh-high leggings is killing me.

Oh, and [gg] is back to help oversub Highschool of the Dead. God bless their souls.

Nothing but butts.

I’m finding it increasingly odd that I have a tendency to watch anime that receive unusual amounts of disdain. Making the rounds off animenano.com, I checked out the reactions to the first episode to Seitokai Yakuindomo. It’s one of the Summer 2010 anime shows that the general reaction seems to be: “Not worth it.” Sure, it might not be for everyone, but it doesn’t mean you should keep people away from it. If anything, this show is for people who wished it was Seitokai no Ichizon with higher animation production, Minami-ke with awkward sex jokes (but that show was awkward to begin with), and/or less shoujo elements than Kaichou wa Meido-sama. And for someone like me, it’s exactly what I ordered.

And with the second episode having aired, I’m happy to say that I’ll be following the series. Atmosphere is laid back enough that I don’t have to absolutely make sure that I’m in the mood for it, letting it be easily digestible.

Say what? Who?

Ritsu shares the same voice actress (Satou Satomi) as Aria from Seitokai Yakuindomo?! I heard a hint of it, but my first guess was someone completely different. Mind blown. It’s such a soothing voice too! I almost thought it was the person who did Alicia, from ARIA the Animation. Although Hisaka Yoko definitely still sounds like Mio from K-ON. Yes, Mio’s VA is also in Yakuindomo. But I like the character she’s voicing this time.

Since I’m already talking about it, might as well spit out my opinions on the show already. Seitokai Yakuindomo looks to be one comfy and slow ride. While the pacing of segments is accelerated compared to most adaptations based on 4koma, it’s letting them fly by fast enough that if it wasn’t interesting the first time, they’ve already moved on. And I guess for now the jokes are stuff that’d make me grin and chuckle.

On a side note, I thought it strange when the flying camera sequence stopped right behind a girls arse to show her pulling up a pair of what I assume to be track pants. I was about to complain about such an odd take on fanservice (I still enjoyed it, anyway) when I realized that Highschool of the Dead is airing in the same season.

One thing to keep in mind is that the director (Kanazawa Hiromitsu) worked on Princess Lover. If it’s any indication, we might end up with an episode or two with some epic lulz, as some were had during PL.

Oh. And Kuroko shows up once again. See if you can spot her!

Podcasts resume!

Sometimes you just feel like throwing stuff. And it happened to me multiple times in the last few hours while I was QCing the last podcast for public consumption. I’m still not satisfied with the quality – I know it can sound better. I’ve already stalled it this long, and I figured to get back on track. So yes! Our podcasts are back, and now separated according to subject matter for better precision. Mish-mash of topics in a single podcast was only ever good if we were extremely professional, but we’re not. The best I can do is start making some music for the intros and transitions so it’s easier on the ears.

Come listen anyway, and burn away 2+ hours of your life.

Taste like burning.

Angel Beats! was fun.

This is kind of sexy.

I have an entire “review” like entry for Angel Beats!, but I always somehow end up not trusting whatever the hell I’m saying. Seems like I’m using such a roundabout way just to say that I like a series despite it’s failings. Or maybe my way of saying that you can still enjoy a series even if it sucks. Am I trying to say that Angel Beats! is a bad show? Not really, but I’ll admit there are a couple of points I wish they tweaked a bit so it was a little better. Even those weren’t much. The only things I’d probably change were little things most probably don’t care about, and I’m sure Maeda Jun and the director, Kishi Seiji, were arguing about the same details that the audience really doesn’t care about. (But I do.)

I watched Angel Beats! for various reasons.

Kamiya Hiroshi, again. Hanazawa Kana and her crazy good voice. PA Works also did CANAAN. Man, was that ever a sketchy reason to watch this show. TK dances. Yuri was more appealing to me than Suzumiya. Headbands. There was a fishing event too, to cap off the silly NPC banter. Oh, how RPG-like.

Data compiled for Angel Beats

Radiation measurements: 277 cM per min; 110,053 MADness/RAGE total, 42 HNG per episode
Radiation consistency: non-burst type, exceptional cohesion

-No anomalies or unique signatures present.
-Headbands and rock bands reported to have reduced moe particle emission.
-Certain episodes contain heavy. (Not a mistake, you’re reading correctly. And no, not the Heavy from TF2.)
-TK is awesome.

Amount of suckage: 35%

Suckage does not indicate a value of inverse quality. Series may have 100% suckage, but contain much win.

Please leave a goddamn comment. I’ll post my full retrace of the series if I notice people read our stuff. We’re lonely here. (Or at least, I am.)
