Being an Anime Fan

I’m surprised it still happens today. I was visiting a BestBuy to get stuff, and headed to the anime section. A girl was already there. She was looking at the other side, and I browsed on my side. Initially I was looking for a good action series like Black Lagoon or whatever have you. Since most of them I already had watched, or owned, I moved onto the softer stuff. Stuff like shoujo and iyashikei such as Aria the Animation or Mushishi. (I wouldn’t exactly call Mushishi iyashikei, but it’s downtempo enough.) Then I remembered I never finished all of Galaxy Angel. It was the complete collection for cheap too. (I didn’t buy it.) I picked it up to examine it – its box art was covered in PINK and other vibrant, bright colors.
I finally notice her looking at me, with a silly grin on her face.

Wait a minute. She’s laughing at me? What for? If she’s laughing at me, then she knows what anime is and watches it. More over, she knows what it is I’m holding. If I knew any better, I’d try to hit on her. But at the moment, being appalled at the reaction she’s giving to a fellow Japan-o-phile, I simply stare at her with an eyebrow raised. She returns to her shopping.
Oh well. Better luck next time.

i know that look. with the raised brow. you peered into her soul, and she couldn’t handle it and had to turn away. or you weirded her out.
